TECHNICAL QUESTIONS
WHAT IS A POWERGRADE?
PowerGrades are custom looks that can be saved along with their node structures in DaVinci Resolve. They provide a non-destructive and fully customizable method for adjusting the tonal range of the footage. When a PowerGrade is applied, the entire node structure becomes visible, allowing users to modify each parameter as needed. This provides maximum flexibility in adjusting the look.
WHAT IS A LUT?
A Look-Up Table (LUT) is a mathematical tool that modifies the color and tone of the footage by altering its input RGB data. These LUTs can be utilized for targeted color grading, replicating particular film stocks, or crafting a unique visual aesthetic for a project.
There are practical purposes for which they were developed. Viewing LUTs enable the conversion of log footage to simulate the appearance of Rec709 footage. Calibration LUTs ensure accurate color representation on monitor displays. Creative LUTs are used to apply an artistic or specific style to the footage. And finally, Film Emulation LUTs replicate the visual aesthetics and characteristics of specific film stocks.
WHAT IS PRINT FILM EMULATION?
Print Film Emulation simulates the Film Print look of the target Film Stock material. It provides a series of meticulously detailed grading nodes that simulate the entire chemical process a film undergoes, providing a fairly accurate post-print film stock look to the digitally shot footage.
